The Red Suit Enthusiasm: Taking Fun Seriously Since the Turn of the Century

Within the mythology and folklore of many cultures are interwoven tales of garments that posess or confer upon their wearer magical properties. From the winged sandals of Hermes to the coat of Padarn Red-Coat to Aphrodite's famed girdle, the tradition of extraordinary under and outerwear is well established across cultural boundaries. Now, in a technological age where scientific advancements allow us to shed light on mysteries that once lurked in the realm of conjecture, we bring you: The Red Suit Enthusiasm!

saboteur.jpgWhat you will see on these pages will astound, amaze, and possibly overwhelm you. While we cannot claim definitively that the suit has the power to heal the dying or promote spontaneous levitation, it can be attested that its remarkable properties and the results thereof have brought tears to many an eye and inspired many a flight of fancy. Standing proud in a world of sloth and drudgery, the suit heralds the resurgence of heroism, whimsy, healthy self-aggrandizement, and most importantly: Enthusiasm in a society of cynics. Putting the 'peril' back in 'apparel' and the 'suit' in 'pursuit,' our Enthusiasts, united by their dashing uniform, never quaver in the face of danger, and it must certainly be said that all the evidence available to us proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the suit itself is more than its seams.

Our story begins, as many do, on a rainy afternoon, when our valiant Captain, filled with the ennui that inclement weather can produce, was sorting through a dusty trunk in the cluttered attic of her brilliant and well-traveled grandfather, recently deceased. An enigmatic man, he had left young Visionary the contents of the attic in his will, suggesting in several cryptic comments that he trusted she would posess the inquisitiveness necessary to unearth its most powerful treasure. After having, with all the prerequisite curiosity, rummaged through countless drawers and cupboards with intriguing but nonetheless not unexpected results, she tackled the trunk in question. Prying open its rusted lid, she pulled out an assortment of motheaten sandals, sashes, and other ephemera from lands unknown before she spotted a gleam of scarlet in the bottom corner. As she laid her hands upon the supple fabric and drew the suit into the light, she felt, it is reported, a warmth that spread throughout her being. Feeling more excited by the minute, she put it on, and instantly felt a sense of clarity and surety of purpose such as she had never experienced before.

visionary.jpgThe fervent enthusiasm that overflowed from her very soul led Visionary clattering down the attic steps, determined to spread the word of her discovery and the obvious object of her grandfather's last wishes. It was not long before others began to wear the suit, and in doing so, the Captain and her growing band made another discovery: they noticed that the wearer of the suit invariably experienced a heightening of their innate talents and sensibilities, as if when donning it, the best and strongest elements of their characters, heretofore hidden behind the guise of their workaday personnas and socially mandated roles burst forth with an overpowering vigor. United by this bonding force, the team became a brotherhood which evolved into what is today the Pastime Athletic Club, an elite organization of individuals who, regardless of their histories (which assuredly are many and marvelous), come together in the interest of spreading the suit's extraordinary gifts throughout the known world.

One thing is certain - though no two people react identically when they first emerge wearing the suit, they are alike in their universal experience of a rush of enthusiasm and potent well-being. Our organization currently claims over one hundred members, ranging in age from eight months to eighty-three years, and each of us inhabits our own vital niche. Where would we be without our Brewmaster, our Heartbreaker, our trusted Assassin? How would we bring the suit to uncharted lands without the cooperative efforts of our Cartographer, Expeditioner, and Explorer? Perhaps more importantly, what would the suit bring out in you? There's only one way to know for sure....
