Our trusty Saboteur has lived a rugged life of roguish gallantry; his unusual aptitude first became clear when, as leader of a ragged band of urchins in the cobbled Boston streets, his deft ability to cheat at cards, combined with his skills as pickpocket and roof-hopper, built him a small fortune as well as a checkered reputation.
Two years in a juvenile prison after a shipyard heist went awry sharpened Hawkeye's wits and intuition; he spent his time devoting himself to study, and slowly acquired a contraband library of books and pamphlets with themes ranging from cryptology to rudimentary explosives (as well as an extensive information-gathering network among the inmates themselves).
While he emerged from lockup a wiser man, incarceration had not broken his mischievous spirit. He had soon installed himself in the ivy-covered attic of an abandoned church, where he undertook a series of increasingly sophisticated capers. He was attracted to the Pastime Athletic Club by its like-minded creed of good-natured adventure and self-congratulation. He provides us all with his remarkable services in espionage while enlivening our spirits with his ever-ready wit and charming escapades. |
